Coding and Documentation for Social Determinants of Health (SDoH)
Social determinants of health (SDoH) have a significant impact on health status.
Learn how HIM Coding and Clinical Documentation can impact SDoH in a positive way.
Despite all of the medical advances achieved in the past few decades, medical care may only account for 10% of an individual’s overall health status. Social determinants of health (SDoH) have a significant impact on health status – for example, behavior
accounts for 40%; social factors (safe housing / nutrition / personal economy) account for 20% and genetics account for the remaining 30%.
The healthcare community is addressing SDoH by leveraging partnerships, analyzing data and coordinating care delivery to address not only the specific medical conditions, but all of the factors that impact health status.
This Program will prepare health information (HIM) and other clinical professionals to understand concepts and current trends related to Social Determinants of Health, population health and how clinical documentation and the HIM coding practices can have a positive impact on health.
- Gain knowledge about the background of SDoH, national trends,
and current legislative and health provider initiatives
- Understand how data analytics and coordination of care can reduce
costs while improving care
- Learn how improved documentation and ICD Coding can drive
health and value
- Understand how HIM professionals play a role in overall health status
